Every page on The Dog Verse passes the same checks before it is published. This page is the standard we hold ourselves to, in public, so readers can hold us to it too.
Height, weight, lifespan, coat and group come from the official breed standards of the American Kennel Club, The Kennel Club (UK) and the FCI. Where standards differ slightly, we show the range that covers them. Designer crosses have no official standard, and their pages say so, using parent breed data and breeder consensus instead. Temperament summaries are our own editorial wording of the standards and club guidance, never copied text.
Health sections summarize the conditions that breed clubs, the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and veterinary references most often flag for each breed, and the screening tests responsible breeders run. This is general information for choosing and caring, never a diagnosis. Food safety content (the Can Dogs Eat section) is held to a higher bar: every verdict is cross-checked against at least two authoritative veterinary sources (the ASPCA, the Merck Veterinary Manual, the FDA, the Pet Poison Helpline and the AKC), the sources are named and linked on every page, and no verdict is ever attributed to a reviewer we do not have.
Content pages that go through our standards process carry a Standards checked label on the page itself. On a breed profile it means the profile's facts were checked against the kennel club sources above. On a Can Dogs Eat page it means the verdict was cross-checked against the named veterinary sources listed on that page. No other review label is used anywhere on this site, and we never print a reviewer's name we do not have.
Every money figure on this site is an estimate, and we show the working:
We publish only photos with a clear reuse license: Creative Commons and public domain work from Wikimedia Commons and free library collections reached through Openverse. Every photo is credited on the page with its creator, license and source. Where no licensed photo exists for a breed or a life stage, the page shows an honest placeholder and says why, rather than borrowing an image. We never present generated or stock imagery as a specific real dog.
Our names collection is an original editorial curation (version 1, compiled November 2026). Etymology notes stick to well established word origins; where a note is an impression rather than an etymology, it reads as one. We publish no popularity rankings, because we do not yet hold registration data to rank honestly. Reader surveys will grow this dataset over time.
Product modules exist in our templates from day one so disclosure is structural, not an afterthought. Rules: we recommend only products the team has genuinely tested or evaluated against published criteria; affiliate links always use rel="sponsored" and carry a disclosure at the top of the page, never only in a footer; star ratings are used only for real products, never for breeds, foods or health content; and no brand can pay for placement or a better verdict.
Affiliate disclosure: links marked as product links are affiliate links with rel="sponsored". If you buy through them, The Dog Verse may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes which products we recommend.
